Overview
Upper Jamison Creek Campground is nestled within the Plumas Eureka State Park which is located in the northern Sierra Nevada. This campground is popular with history buffs that want to learn more about the gold mining history of the region and explore historical buildings and the museum.
It has 60 sites that can accommodate tents, RVs up to 28 feet, and trailers up to 24 feet. 41 sites are suitable for RVs and trailers, while 19 sites are tent-only. They also have a Camp Lisa, a group camping site that is tent-only.
The campground is open from mid-May to late September or early October, weather depending, and at the elevation of 5,140 feet, it stays generally cooler in the summer months than other campgrounds at sea level.
While there is a dump station at Upper Jamison Creek, there are no hookups. Each campsite has a fire grill, tables, and a food storage locker.
Dogs are allowed on most paved roads but are not allowed on most trails within the park, and neither are they allowed on ski trails.

Group Camping Reservations

It is advised to make reservations 7 days to 6 months in advance. The campground is open from early May through October.
Campsite Reservation Cancellations
If you withdraw a reservation, you will be charged a cancellation fee of $7.99 per reservation. Cancellations are accepted online or by phone at (800) 444-PARK (7275). This service is accessible from 8 am to 6 pm seven days a week. Customers who cancel after 6 pm the day before arrival will be charged a $7.99 cancellation fee and will forfeit the cost for one night as well as the $7.99 reservation fee.

Salmon Creek Campground
With only 31 sites, Salmon Creek is much smaller than Jamison Creek’s 60. Salmon Creek has only 7 sites for RVs, while Jamison Creek has over 40. Both campgrounds have no hookups and are at a similar elevation, with Salmon Creek being at 5,760 feet and Jamison Creek being at 5,140 feet.
Like Gold Lake and Lakes Basin campgrounds, Salmon Creek only has vault toilets and piped water, while Jamison Creek has flush toilets. The fee for Salmon Creek is $24, while Jamison Creek costs $35. Both campgrounds are open from May to October.
Calpine Lookout Campground
Calpine Lookout Campground isn’t actually a campground but is a cabin located in a forest fire lookout tower that is lit and heated with its own propane tank. The cabin measures 14 feet by 14 feet and has only two twin beds, while Jamison Creek is a large campground with 60 sites.
Fires are generally not permitted during the summer months at Calpine Lookout because of wildfire restrictions. In Jamison Creek, fires are permitted year-round in designated fire rings as long as you adhere to fire restrictions.
Calpine is popular with people who want to enjoy the endless array of stars and meteorites or the spectacular views of the surrounding mountains. Unlike Jamison Creek which has flush toilets, the cabin at Calpine Lookout only has a vault toilet.
