Overview
Located amongst the redwoods north of Eureka, California, Sue-meg State Park has three separate campgrounds: Penn, Abalone, and Agate. Penn Campground is a tent-only area, while Abalone and Agate campgrounds can accommodate RVs or trailers as well with a limit of two overall vehicles. Agate Campground also has four ADA-accessible cabins available for rent.
There are no hookups available within any of the campgrounds, but Abalone and Agate have showers and restrooms. Campers at Penn Campground have access to restrooms and can walk to Abalone to use the showers.
The two group sites, Beach Creek and Red Alder, can support a maximum of 100 guests and 18 vehicles. Group camps include picnic tables, fire pits, and a cooking area. Toilets and showers are nearby in the three main campgrounds.
Dogs are allowed within the campgrounds and the park’s day-use areas. They aren’t permitted on trails or the beach.

The cabins at Agate Campground are $80 per night. They can sleep up to six people at a time, and the cabins are all ADA accessible. Reservations for the cabins follow the same guidelines as individual reservations in the main campgrounds.

Group Camping Reservations
Two group sites are available at a cost of $300 per night. Groups are limited to 100 people and 18 vehicles. Each reservation will also be charged a $7.99 booking fee and $150 for a permit. Reservations can be made online at www.reservecalifornia.com or by phone at 1-800-444-7275.
Campsite Reservation Cancellations
Cancellations must be made through the Reserve California website or by calling 1-800-444-7275. All cancellations will be charged a $7.99 fee, and campers will lose their original $7.99 reservation fee as well. Anyone who cancels after 6 p.m. the day before their first night stay will also be charged the cost of one night.

Nearby Campgrounds to Sue-Meg Stake Park (Patrick's Point)
The campgrounds at Sue-Meg are quite large, so they’re able to accommodate a large number of individual guests. The group sites are also larger than many in the area since they can fit up to 100 people at a time. The cabins also offer a unique style of camping that isn’t available in many other comparable locations.
Compared to privately owned campgrounds and RV parks, the amenities at Sue-Meg are basic but with lower rates. One of the biggest benefits of staying at Sue-Meg instead of a private park is having direct beach access. The state park is also somewhat dog friendly even though dogs are not allowed on the beach itself.
Humboldt Lagoons State Park
Humboldt Lagoons has 25 sites that can accommodate tents and RVs up to 25 feet. The cost is $25 per night, and sites are only available on a first-come, first-served basis from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Reservations can be made by calling 707-677-3570. Dogs are not allowed in campsites.
Gold Bluffs Beach Campground
The amenities at Gold Bluffs Beach are similar, and the price is the same as Patrick’s Point. There are 26 sites available, and the maximum length for RVs is 26 feet. The road is difficult, so RVs/trailers are not recommended. There is only one accessible site. Dogs aren’t allowed on trails.
Azalea Glen RV Park Campground
Azalea Glen features 38 sites, which includes four pull-through sites. Full hookups with WiFi and cable are available. There is no direct beach access. From May through September, the cost is $55–$65 per night. The off-season cost is $45–$55. Dogs are an extra $2 per night each.
Sound of the Sea Campground
Sound of the Sea is less than a mile from Patrick’s Point, and guests have beach access through the state park. The campground features 52 sites with WiFi, cable, and full hookups. The four cabins are much more expensive at a rate of $175 per night (or $200 for a pet-friendly cabin). Tent spaces are $20 per night, and RV sites are $50–$70.50 per night.
