Silver Strand State Beach
5000 CA-75, Coronado, CA 92118, United States
Overview
Silver Strand is in the middle of two beaches. The west-facing one offers sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean while the east-facing one points inland across San Diego Bay.
Silver Strand Campground is located along the west coast, across the highway from the Aquatic Center. Coming on the I-5 from the north, exit at Chicano Park. If coming from the south, get on Palm Avenue and follow it until it becomes Silver Strand Boulevard.
This vehicle-only campground is located across Highway 75 in the south of Coronado. All sites have full 50 amp hookups that can accommodate vehicles up to 40 feet in length. The use of a dump station is available at $10.
This campground does not allow car or tent camping, and all campers and pets must sleep inside their trailers or RVs.
Note that this site is only for self-contained vehicles with a sink, enclosed water system, and chemical toilet.
Dogs are allowed on a leash within the parking lot and the campground but not on the beach.
This campsite has around 136 sites that can accommodate up to 8 campers each including children and two vehicles (one towed) per site.
This campground is open year-round but because of its popularity, you should book well in advance, especially in the peak summer months. It can also get crowded on weekends during spring and fall.

FAQs
Nearby Campgrounds to Silver Strand State Beach
Silver Strand is similar to many nearby campgrounds. The most significant differences compared to other locations like South Carlsbad are the lack of full hookups or a group site. Silver Strand is also a purely beach environment while campgrounds like San Elijo’s offer views from the bluffs.
San Elijo State Beach
San Elijo has more amenities than Silver Strand, including a restaurant and camp store. Some sites are equipped with full hookups. The view is different as well since San Elijo’s campground is located on bluffs with stairs leading down to the beach. Beach wheelchairs and accessible showers are available as well. Sites without hookups are $35 inland or $50 for ocean sites. Full hookups are an additional $25.
South Carlsbad State Beach
South Carlsbad has full hookups, which can be convenient for campers who don’t want to worry about visiting the dump station at Silver Strand. It also features internet access, laundry, and propane. There is a group site for tents, RVs, and trailers.
San Onofre State Beach
San Onofre has two campgrounds, one of which is situated on the bluffs. The lower campground offers water and electric hookups with a dump station; the campground on the bluffs is dry camping only. There are group sites at both locations, and dogs are allowed on two trails out of the bluffs.
San Clemente State Beach
San Clemente may be the better option for groups since it offers two group sites capable of accommodating up to 50 guests each. There are also full hookups available, but the size limit of 30 feet could be restrictive for larger RVs and trailers. The pier can be used for viewing the water or fishing.
