FAQs
Nearby Campgrounds to Sherwin Creek Campground
Amenities at Sherwin Creek are somewhat more primitive than at other campgrounds in Inyo National Forest. The campground does not offer showers or flush toilets, so guests who prefer these amenities in close proximity to their sites will be better served elsewhere. Paid showers and a dump station are available at several nearby locations.
Sherwin Creek benefits from being only a couple of miles outside of town. This makes it easy to make short trips for food or entertainment. However, guests should note that Sherwin Creek is not located close to any of the lakes in the area. Visiting larger bodies of water like Lake Mary will require leaving the immediate area around the campground, but the drive will be quite short.
Pine Glen Campground
Pine Glen Campground is close to New Shady Rest and Old Shady Rest. It has 9 individual sites, 2 small group sites for up to 15 guests, and 6 group sites for up to 30 guests. The cost is $66 per night for a small group site or $132 for a large one. Pine Glen has flush toilets and easy access to the dump station at New Shady Rest and paid showers outside the campground.
New Shady Rest Campground
New Shady Rest has 92 sites for tents, RVs, and trailers. Old Shady Rest Campground
Old Shady Rest is next to Mammoth Lakes and has similar amenities to Sherwin Creek. The campground is smaller and only offers 45 sites in total. The main differences are that Old Shady Rest has ADA-accessible sites and flush toilets but no hike-in or tent-only sites. It’s also closer to town than Sherwin Creek.
Coldwater Campground
Coldwater Campground is in a slightly different area of Inyo National Forest. There are 73 sites for RVs, trailers, and tents, and the 43-foot length limit is higher than many neighboring campgrounds. Guests will have easy access to Lake Mary and the trail network that extends beyond the campground. Coldwater Campground has flush toilets and is located close to Twin Lakes General Store for access to paid showers.
Twin Lakes Campground
Twin Lakes Campground has 93 sites for tents, trailers, and RVs. Amenities are similar to Sherwin Creek, but there are flush toilets available here instead of vault toilets. The general store close to the campground offers paid showers, firewood, and boat rentals. The campground is also convenient to town, Mammoth Mountain, and Twin Lakes.
Lake Mary Campground
Lake Mary Campground is in a much different setting than Sherwin Creek since it’s located on the shores of one of the most popular lakes in the region. Lake Mary Campground has 48 sites, and it can only accommodate RVs and trailers up to 30 feet in length. It does not have hike-in or tent-only sites, so guests who prefer those options will be better served at Sherwin Creek.
