Nearby Campgrounds to Penn Creek Campground (Sue-Meg)
Penn Creek is a smaller tent-only campground that has basic amenities such as water, showers, and flush toilets, but there aren’t options for hookups or RV/trailers to stay. Guests who prefer the security of an advanced reservation may also prefer to stay elsewhere during the off-season when reservations are not allowed at Penn Creek.
Even though some Penn Creek sites are relatively flat and there are accessible restrooms, Penn Creek does not have designated accessible sites. There is one group site with its own running water, cooking area, restroom, and shower, which makes Penn Creek an appealing place for larger groups of up to 50 people.
Abalone Campground
Abalone campground is also in Sue-meg State Park, so the surrounding environment is similar. It’s much larger, however, with 70 sites that can accommodate tents and RVs and 7 that are for tents only. Abalone has accessible sites and restrooms, so this is the better option for disabled guests. Unlike at Penn Creek, there is a dump station on site.
Gold Bluffs Beach
Gold Bluffs Beach has 26 sites available on a first-come, first-served basis. Amenities include potable water, showers, and restrooms. There is one accessible site but no group camping area. Activities include fishing, exploring Fern Canyon, and exploring the dunes along the beach. RVs are limited to 24 feet; no towed trailers are allowed.
Fish Lake Campground
Sites can be reserved during the peak season of mid-June through September. Otherwise, they’re first come, first served. RVs and trailers are limited to 20 feet in length. Amenities include vault toilets, picnic tables, potable water, and fire rings. There are multiple accessible sites but no accessible bathrooms. The cost is much cheaper at $10 per night. There is no group site.
