FAQs
Nearby Campgrounds to Peninsula Campground (Folsom Lake)
As a campground with access by boat or car, Peninsula Campground has a unique layout with easy access to the lake. Despite the lack of hookups, the showers and dump stations make longer stays feasible. The campground is open from April 1 to October 1, which is a much shorter window than campgrounds in many neighboring areas.
However, with trails for horseback riding or cycling and rules that permit dogs in the water, Folsom Lake State Recreation Area offers a versatile range of activities. Guests should note that Lake Natoma only allows low-speed nonmotorized boating, but fishing is permitted.
The three group sites in the same park as Peninsula Campground also make this location friendly to those traveling with friends or family. At nightly rates of $28 for individual sites and $115 to $195 for group sites, pricing is affordable no matter the size of your party.
Beals Point Campground
Beals Point is located in the same park, so the environment and surrounding amenities of Folsom Lake State Recreation Area remain the same. This campground has 69 sites divided into separate loops for tents only and RVs. Amenities are similar for tent campers, but the RV loop offers full hookups, which provide a more luxurious stay than at Peninsula Campground. Beals Point is situated on the west bank of Folsom Lake, but it does not have boat-in access or a mooring area, so guests who intend to primarily boat may prefer Peninsula Campground.
Averys Pond Campground
Averys Pond Campground is in the same park, but the amenities are much different since the only sites are 2 hike-in environmental campsites for up to 8 people. Dogs and fires are not allowed in this campground, and guests will need to bring their own water and pack out their trash. There is no direct lake access from this campground. Guests who enjoy primitive camping will prefer the quiet of Averys Pond over Peninsula Campground.
Dru Barner Campground
Dru Barner is located in Eldorado National Forest. The area has more tree cover and wilderness areas, and there is no large body of water within the park limits. Therefore, guests who enjoy fishing and boating will be better served at Peninsula Campground.
Dru Barner caters to equestrians and offers a limited number of individual sites with corrals. Amenities include water, flush toilets, vault toilets, picnic tables, and fire rings but no dump station or showers like at Peninsula Campground. The price is much cheaper than at Peninsula Campground with an $8 nightly rate. Additionally, Dru Barner is open all year.
