The Morro Bay State Park is a must-see for nature lovers. The 2,700-acre area consists of a vast range of habitats like tidal wetlands, estuaries, and mudflats.
The park, which also houses the Museum of Natural History and the prominent Morro Rock, is Situated in western San Luis Obispo County.
Morro Bay State Park Campground has 140 campsites that can accommodate tents, RVs, and trailers of up to 35 feet. 30 sites offer full hookups and there’s a dump station located within the campground. Two group campsites can accommodate up to 35 people, and hike and bike sites.
Pets are permitted in the Morro Bay State Park only if on a leash and attended to. Morro Bay is open all year round.

Yes, during peak seasonOf the 140 campsites, sites 1-85 can be reserved year-round, sites 86-134 can be reserved from mid-May through mid-October, while campsites are first-come-first-served during the off-season. Reservations can be made between two days and six months before your arrival.
You can make reservations online at www.parks.ca.gov or by calling (800) 444-7275 between 8 AM and 6 PM. A night at Morro Bay State Park costs $35 for standard campsites and $50 for a hookup campsite.

Group Camping Reservations
There are 2 group campsites at the Morro Bay State Park. The larger one, Chorro, can accommodate 9 to 35 people and a maximum of 25 vehicles. The smaller group campsite, Osos, can accommodate 9 to 25 people and a maximum of 10 vehicles.
A night at Chorro costs $165, while Osos costs $100. You can make any campsite reservations through ReserveCalifornia or by phone: 1-800-444-PARK (7275).
Campsite Reservation Cancellations
All year round and 2 days before your day of arrival, you can make your reservations through ReserveCalifornia or by phone: 1-800-444-PARK (7275). There is a $7.99 cancellation fee as a penalty if a cancellation is made after 6 pm a day before your arrival.

Nearby Campgrounds to Morro Bay State Park
Across the different beaches and campgrounds, you’ll find additional features and many similarities depending on what you need. Here is some information on other nearby campgrounds to help you make your decision.
Morro Strand State Beach
Morro Strand campground is by the beach, compared to Morro Bay which is nestled with the state park next to an estuary. Morro Strand campground is smaller, having only 76 campsites as opposed to Morro Bay State Park's 140.
They both have full hookup sites and are pet-friendly. However, Morro Strand doesn’t have group campsites. While there are no showers at Morro Strand, you'll find multiple showers at Morro Bay.
Pismo State Beach
There are two campgrounds in Pismo State Beach; North Beach and Oceano. Like Morro Bay, both campgrounds in Pismo have coin-operated hot showers, restrooms, picnic tables, and a campfire ring.
However, Pismo is larger and has 183 campsites across both campgrounds as opposed to Morro Bay's 140 campsites. Both campgrounds have full hookup sites that cost $50 and cost $35 for standard sites.
Hearst San Simeon State Park
Hearst San Simeon has two campgrounds; San Simeon Creek which has RV sites but no hookups, and Washburn, which is a primitive camping campground with chemical toilets, and no showers. Between both campsites, Hearst San Simeon has 191 campsites and is larger than Morro Bay’s 140.
San Simeon Creek costs $35 a night while Washburn costs $20.
Refugio State Beach Campground
Refugio State Beach Campground allows for sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean coastline. It is, however, smaller, with 63 sites compared to Morro Bay’s 140.
Like Morro Bay, Refugio State Beach has hike and bike sites, a picnic table, and fire rings. However, Refugio does not have any hookup sites. You’ll find them at Morro Bay though!
