FAQs
Nearby Campgrounds to Malibu Creek State Park Campground
Malibu Creek State Park Campground has 63 individual sites and 1 group site. Amenities such as showers and a dump station make longer stays more convenient, but guests who prefer not to worry about water, electricity, and sewer will be better served at a campground with hookups.
The surrounding area supports a wealth of different activities. Horseback riding, fishing, swimming, hiking, and exploring the history of the area are all popular pastimes at Malibu Creek. Guests can visit famous filming locations, the site of two former adobes, and the Rock Pool all without straying too far from the main campground.
Malibu Creek State Park Campground is also unique because of its accessibility for disabled guests. In addition to accessible sites and restrooms, the Campfire Center and the path leading to the center are both accessible as well. The Anne Skager Trail is a 0.58-mile loop path made of asphalt and compacted aggregate that was specially designed for visually impaired guests.
Leo Carrillo State Beach
Leo Carillo’s campground is located in more of a beach environment compared to Malibu Creek. Canyon Campground has 135 sites, and electric hookups are available for a limited number of sites. Amenities include a dump station, drinking water, flush toilets, and paid showers. At $45 for standard sites, prices are comparable to Malibu Creek. Sites with hookups are more expensive at $60 per night.
Thornhill Broome
Thornhill Broome is located in a somewhat remote area. It has more camping options than Malibu Creek since it offers 17 tent-only seasonal sites, 69 primitive sites, a group camp, and a backcountry site that’s roughly 2.5 miles from the group camping area. With a width restriction of 12 feet and a length limit of 31 feet, sites for trailers and RVs are limited.
Amenities are very basic and only include potable water and vault toilets. Showers and a dump station are available at the nearby Sycamore Canyon Campground. Dogs are allowed on the beach, making this a more dog-friendly location.
Sycamore Canyon
Sycamore Canyon has a dump station, showers, restrooms, and a camp host. The main difference from Malibu Creek is that this campground is located along the Pacific Ocean. Therefore, guests who prefer swimming, kayaking, and water sports are more likely to enjoy Sycamore Canyon. However, it lacks some of the historical elements such as the Sepulveda Adobe that are most popular at Malibu Creek.
Emma Wood State Beach
The campground at Emma Wood State Beach has 90 sites for RVs and trailers split between an upper and lower section. No tent camping is allowed in the main campground since Emma Wood doesn’t offer amenities like toilets, and none of the sites at Emma Wood are accessible for disabled guests. The maximum length for RVs is 40 feet, so this campground is better for larger rigs.
However, Emma Wood does have 4 tent-only group camps and 1 RV group camp. There’s also a hike-and-bike site and an en-route camp for RVs that are just spending the night on the way to another destination. At $130 per night for the tent-only group sites and $360 for the group site, the fees may be cheaper or more expensive than Malibu Creek based on selection.
