Overview
Loafer Creek Campground is located on the southeast side of Lake Oroville, a man-made lake formed by the impressive Oroville dam, the tallest in the country.
The campground is across the bay from Bidwell Canyon Campground and the nearby marina. To get there, drive 68 miles north of Sacramento on Highway 70, turn east onto Highway 162, then to Loafer Creek into the park.
The Loafer Creek Campground has 137 campsites in loops above the lake that accommodate tents, RVs up to 40 feet, and trailers up to 31 feet.
Although there are no hookups, there is a dump station available, as well as potable water, flush toilets, and coin-operated showers. Unique floating campsites can also be reserved.
There are also neighboring group sites that allow for up to 24 people and 7 vehicles but these sites are tent-only.
In addition, there is a separate Equestrian Campground which is one of the finest in the region. Each of the 15 equestrian sites has tethering and feeding stations and can accommodate 8 people, 2 horses, and 2 vehicles.
Pets are allowed on a leash and always attended to but they aren’t allowed on trails, day-use areas, or floating campsites.
The campground is open from April to October, weather permitting. However, water access to Lake Oroville can be limited during drier months because of the low water levels.
