Overview
Located near Markleeville, California, Grover Springs campground is nestled near several hot springs surrounded by lush alpine vegetation.
This relatively large campground has 76 sites that can accommodate trailers up to 24 feet and RVs up to 27 feet. Each site allows for up to eight people and one vehicle is included. Additional vehicles cost $8.
Grover Hot Springs doesn’t offer any hookups and each site comes with a food storage locker which should be used because of the bears.
Dogs are allowed in the campground but have to be kept on a leash and attended to at all times. The campground is open year round but in winter, the max vehicle length is 18 feet and there are no showers.
Note that Grover Hot Springs State Park is partially closed because of the Tamarack Fire in July of 2021. The fire damaged housing structures, shops, vehicles, and several trails, and they are currently rebuilding the infrastructure.

Go for a long, relaxing soak in any one of the natural hot springs surrounding the campground. The hot springs’ unique green tint have fabled healing abilities, and the mineral-rich pools make the perfect afternoon soak. Time to unwind and fully detach from the bustle of city life!
Go for a hike on one of the many trails and enjoy the stunning alpine scenery with meadows overflowing with wildflowers.
Have a picnic in one of the many picnic areas and enjoy some quality time with friends or family.
Go fishing in one of the streams around the campground and try your luck for trout and bass.

NoReservations for the campground are done via Reserve California on their website at www.reservecarlifonia.com. On the website, you can find a list of instructions and FAQ that will help with your reservation process.
Should you experience any difficulty, you can call (800)444-7275. You will be charged a $7.99 reservation fee and the sites all cost $35 in summer and $25 in winter per night. Any additional vehicle on the campsite is charged $8 per night. Reservations can be made up to 6 months in advance.

Group Camping Reservations
Grover Hot Springs campground doesn’t have any group sites, but they allow eight people per site so you can reserve multiple adjacent sites.
Campsite Reservation Cancellations
Cancellations and changes in your date of arrival or length of stay are permissible at the Grover Hot Springs campground. To do so, you should call 1-800-444 or visit www.reservecarlifonia.com .
Please note that cancellations must be done before 6 pm the day before you are scheduled to arrive. Failure to cancel on time will incur a cancellation fee of $7.99 and the first night's camping fee.

Nearby Campgrounds to Grover Hot Springs Campground
Emerald Bay State Park
Located a few miles south of Tahoe City, Emerald Bay offers lakeshore scenery compared to Grover Hot Spring’s alpine environment.
Campers at Emerald Bay tend to go there for watersports, especially in the summer. Scuba diving, snorkeling, and kayaking are some of the main attractions there, while in Grover, the main attraction is the hot springs.
Dogs and fires are not allowed in Emerald Bay, but they are in Grover Hot Springs.
Lake Alpine Backpackers Campground
The Lake Alpine Backpackers campground is a tent-only one where you have to park your car in a lot on an adjacent street. In contrast, Grover allows for RVs and trailers up to 27 and 24 feet respectively.
Backpackers campground allows only 6 people per site compared to Grover’s maximum of 8. Backpackers only has vault toilets while Grover has flush toilets. Both campgrounds do not have hookups.
Lake Alpine Pine Marten Campground
Lake Alpine’s Pine Marten campground sits at an elevation of 7,400 feet and is only open from May to Sep, weather permitting, but Grover is open all year round.
Pine Marten allows for only six people per site while Grover allows for eight. There are no hot showers in Pine Marten while Grover has them. Both campgrounds are in bear country with an active population of bears so using the food storage locker is mandatory. Pine Marten costs $30 while Grover costs $35 in summer and $25 in winter.
Lake Alpine Silver Valley Campground
Silver Valley doesn’t have showers and only has vault toilets while Grover has showers during the summer months and flush toilets.
Both campgrounds don’t offer any hookups, and Silver Valley is open only May to October, weather depending, while Grover is open year-round. Silver Valley costs $30 a night and Grover costs $35 in summer and $25 in winter.
Silver Valley can also take larger vehicles up to 40 feet, while at Grover, the maximum limit is 27 feet for RVs and 24 feet for trailers.
