Overview
Deer Creek Campground is located 1 mile down the north shore of Huntington Lake in the Sierra National Forest, California at an elevation of 7,000 feet.
You can reach the campground by taking Highway 168 E from Clovis to Shaver Lake, then on to Huntington Lake. The campground is 1.2 miles around Huntington Lake.
The campground is open from mid-May to mid-September every year and has 28 campsites next to the lake, each having a paved parking spur, a table, a fire ring, and a grill.
You also have access to a pay phone, drinking water, and flush toilets, some of which are ADA accessible. However, there are no dump stations, showers, or hookups.
All sites allow tents, RV, or trailers up to a maximum length of 40m. Two vehicles per site are permitted, but the 2nd vehicle will cost $10.
The maximum number of people allowed per site is 6, including children. Dogs are allowed but they must be on a leash and always be attended to.

Yes, only one site is on first come first serve; others need reservation.Reservations for campsites can be made through www.recreation.gov or at 1-877-444-6777. Reservations are open 6 months in advance on a rolling basis, and you can book up to 3 days before your arrival.
The 28th site is designated a first come, first serve, so you cannot reserve it online.

The total number of days you can stay at the park is 14 days, subject to change depending on the campsite's availability. Reservations during the weekends need to be for a minimum of 2 nights and on holidays a minimum of 3 nights.

Group Camping Reservations
There group camping sites in Deer Creek. However, the maximum number of people allowed per single site is 6 with two vehicles and double sites can hold 12 people and four vehicles so you can reserve multiple sites close to each other.
Campsite Reservation Cancellations
You can cancel the reservation at www.recreation.gov or call NRRS at 1-877-444-6777. You can cancel up to two days before your scheduled arrival date and receive a refund of your camping fee minus the mandatory $10 cancellation fee.
If you cancel the day before you check in, one night’s fee will be forfeited in addition to the $10 cancellation fee. If you want to change the date of your stay, there is a $10 change fee.

Nearby Campgrounds to Deer Creek Campground
Deer Creek Campground is a top camping site for the variety of activities you get to do, from water sports to fishing to hiking to bird watching to museums and resorts. The sites are pretty spacious, so you still have some space after pitching 2 to 3 tents on the site.
Some other campgrounds that are popular near Deer Creek campground are:
College Campground
College Campground is a small campground that has 10 tent-only sites, while Deer Creek can accommodate RVs and trailers up to 40 feet. Both campgrounds are located along the shores of Huntington Lake.
College’s single sites cost $30 and their doubles cost $56, while Deer Creek is more expensive at $37 and $74 respectively. College opens in June while Deer Creek opens in mid-May. They both close in mid-September, weather permitting.
There are two accessible sites in College, while there are none in Deer Creek although some facilities are accessible. Like Deer Creek, College doesn’t have any showers or hookups.
Rancheria Campground
Rancheria Campground is a much larger campground with 125 campsites, among which 58 are tent-only sites. Additionally, it offers 3 small group campsites at $103, the only ones in the campground with electric and water hookups. Deer Creek has no group sites and no hookups.
Each of Rancheria’s group sites can accommodate up to 18 people and 6 vehicles per site. The remaining are standard sites that can fit RVs up to 40 feet which is the same length that Deer Creek can accommodate.
Several sites are designated ADA-accessible sites, while Deer Creek has none. Both campgrounds have no dump stations, showers, or hookups.
Lower Billy Creek Campground
Lower Billy Creek is also situated on Huntington Lake. It is a much smaller campground with only 12 sites compared to Deer Creek’s 28. It is also harder to maneuver larger vehicles like RVs because of the tight spaces and proximity of the trees.
Both campgrounds have no hookups, and Lower Billy Creek has only vault toilets while Deer Creek has flush toilets. Both campgrounds cost exactly the same - $37 for a standard, $39 for a premium, and $74 for a double.
Badger Flats Group Campground
Badger Flats is a group campground with 15 first-come, first-served sites while Deer Creek allows reservations. They only have vault toilets, while Deer Creek has flush toilets.
Badger Flats doesn’t have potable water while Deer Creek does. It is also a cheaper campground at $22 a night compared to Deer Creek’s $37.
Both campgrounds don’t have showers, dump stations, hookups, or ADA sites, and Badger Flats can accommodate vehicles up to 35 feet while Deer Creek allows for up to 40 feet.
